| Historic Function Remarks: | Research in a paper written in 1984 by Stan Hernly (attached below) notes a June 18, 1871 article in the Republican Daily Journal (Lawrence) that credits T. H. Lescher of Lawrence as the architect and the builder as Mr. Palmer. Hernly's research also indicates the house was built in two phases. Rueben Ludington bought the estate from Lida & Thomas Eldridge in 1869, and by July of 1870, construction had begun on the front part of the house. Construction of an addition was completed by the fall of 1872. | |
