General Remarks:McKimmons Farm--Mr. Hazen and his wife settled on this land in 1856 prior to the founding of the town of Westmoreland. Hazen died shortly after arrival and his widow later met John McKimmons and moved back to this land. McKimmons was founder and local settler of Westmoreland. The house was a log cabin, located across the road from the barn that served as the early post office. The log cabin is reportedly extant within the existing house. The house and barn are no longer on the same parcel of land. John Reese purchased the land on the E side of the road in recent years.

The site is comprised of the barn and a frame chicken house and corn crib that are both in deteriorated condition. There is also a hayshed located N of the barn. The barn sits on a hill above Rock Creek, just N of the Oregon Trail Park on Highway 99 south of Westmoreland. Mr. Reese has invested in erosion control measures to stabilize the bluff along the creek and prevent encroachment on the barn.

Also formerly surveyed as McKimmen farm, under inventory #s 149-0000-00306 through -00310 (paper forms archived).
